"What you sow does not come to life unless it dies...So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body."
When my friend Grace was close to passing, this passage came to mind a lot (although I couldn't remember where it was from until now), so it was nice to read it in the context of Paul's letter. But it was also a good reminder to me that, though Grace is gone and the cancer took her in a somewhat "dishonorable" and weak way, she will be raised in glory, power and have this amazing spiritual body! (And we have those to look forward to as followers of Christ, too!) And even further, applied to the legacy she has sown in all of us, we hope and pray and much life will be raised (in and through us) as a result of her life, labor in the Lord and subsequent legacy.
It's such a comfort to know that in Christ Jesus we have victory over death, even if it kills us (in our natural bodies). But in light of all this, Paul's charge is all the more timely: "Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain." (1 Cor 15:58) Let's keep pressing on!...
