Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybody's chains came loose. The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped. But Paul shouted, "Don't harm yourself! We are all here!"
As I read this passage I realized that unlike the last time when God sent an angel to free Peter from Jail, this time God freed the apostles but they did not leave and hide. Instead God used that miracle to allow them the opportunity to witness to the prison guard and his family. Man, I can't imagine being freed miraculously like that, and then still have the mindset to stick around and witness to this scared jailer.
The apostles were so focused on sharing the good news, no matter where they were or what the situation was, that even when they were set free they did not think only about themselves, but used the opportunity to lead another person to Christ. I want my mindset to be transformed to be like that of the apostles...to be so focused on spreading the gospel that everything else in my life, my desires and goals and dreams, come second.
