It is fine to be zealous, provided the purpose is good, and to be so always and not just when I am with you.
This verse stood out to me b/c it made me think about my own actions, heart and motives. I love people that are passionate and I too am passionate about certain things, but there are 2 things Paul warns the Galatians about regarding being zealous or passionate. First he says it's fine to be passionate as long as the purpose is good. I good friend of mine recently shared with me her thoughts about why I get so worked up and upset about certain things...basically being zealous about things that aren't for a good purpose...and ever since then it's been on my mind. This verse is a good reminder that I need to really focus on being passionate about things that will help others and things that are for God's kingdom, and not about things that will do no good to anyone. The second thing Paul warns them is to continue to be zealous even when he's not there. This too is a shortcoming of mine b/c I often get excited and really into something for a time and then it falls flat when God tells me to wait or I have to have patience with it. I pray that God will direct me show me how to use my passion for His kingdom and His glory.
