"This man was seized by the Jews and they were about to kill him, but I came with my troops and rescued him, for I had learned that the is a Roman citizen...I found that the accusation had to do with questions about their law, but there was no charge against him that deserved death or imprisonment. When I was informed of a plot to be carried out against the man, I sent him to you at once..."
It's striking to me how full of integrity and honest this Roman commander, Claudius Lysias, was. He was concerned in doing things the right way, especially since Paul was a Roman citizen, and he did not allow the Jews to just kill him (although that might have helped to solve his problems). In any case, it just goes to show how seemingly little acts (or big in this case, as he got hundreds of people to make sure Paul was safe from the 40 Jews who vowed to kill him) of integrity and honesty go a long way in ensuring life for others. And it points to the fact that we ought to live our lives honestly and full of integrity because we never know how it affects those around us...it might even save their lives!
