Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
Wow, what a scene! When I read these descriptive verses I thought how scary and awesome it must have been to be in that house. I mean at first it sounds like a crazy wind storm like the one we had this winter but then the "tongues of fire" that came to rest on each of them. I wonder if the disciples knew this was the gift from God Jesus had promised them and that they had been waiting for. These verses remind me that God's power is awesome and scary at times, and when He answers our prayers it can come in many different ways and unexpectedly.
