"When Jesus heard what had happened [to John the Baptist], he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion othe them and healed their sick."
Times of private solitude are valid (as modeled by Jesus) and it is in this time alone that compassion can be fueled. Solitude is not just for oursevles; it must be evidenced in outward action toward others: to meet needs/bring healing. Our times alone where God does a healing work in us can be passed on to others to help their healing process. (inward --> outward). Oh how I need God to help me not to be selfish about my times alone, but to learn to be compassionate and to create space for healing--to take time out to feel for & empathize with others even in and despite my own "busyness" and beyond my own "agendas."
** NOTE: So all this time I thought I was reading Mark, but really I was reading Matthew! No wonder when I was reading previous posts I didn't recall reading those passages! I'll move over to Mark tomorrow!
