"Are you the king of the Jews?' asked Pilate.
"Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied.
The chief priests accused him of many things. So again Pilate asked him, "Aren't you going to answer? See how many things they are accusing you of?"
But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilate was amazed.
I chose this passage because it challenges me to see how Jesus responses in midst of His accusers. He stood up for what was important, that He is the King of the Jews, but kept silent when people accused Him on the lesser things. My self-righteousness has often times led me to speak when I should have kept silent. I want to be in the right and defend my rights. Even though Jesus was all perfect, and obviously right all the time, He willingly gave up His rights. He knew Himself and God (the Father) so well that He didn't need others to validate Him. He spoke when He had to, stopped when He didn't have to speak. It reminds me of a passage in Philippians 3:8-11.
