When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.
Luke 4:1-13. This whole passage reminds me of a verse in James. "Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." James 4:7b. When tempted by the devil, Jesus stayed on His ground. He didn't compromise. He didn't budge. He resisted the devil, and the devil left. And I think about myself, and I see that some many times, when temptation comes my way, I flirt rather than resist. I think about "Oh, maybe this is ok." or "I don't think I'll be tempted." When I look at Jesus, and see how He responded to temptation, He was very firm in His response to the devil, giving the devil no room to move into His life. I need to learn to say "no" and move on. I linger to long. I need to be stern with my response to temptation, and move on.
